August Wedding at The Community House of Moorestown

AUG 23, 2024

Alexandra & Mike committed to a lifetime of loving each other on the most perfect day in August. Their wedding was held at the Community House of Morrestown, a historic 1920's mansion that looks out on a charming South Jersey downtown. I think I probably had the most fun shooting this wedding out of all the weddings I photographed in 2024 for many reasons, but the main one being that Alexandra is one of my oldest friends! I had the privilege of photographing the moment Mike proposed to Alexandra in Central Park, and once they were wedding planning, Alexandra gave me the option to either be a guest or to be the photographer at her wedding--any guesses as to which option I chose?
This venue was so special in the way that the bridal suite resembled the upstairs of a home, while still having plenty of space for everyone to get ready in. The getting ready portion of the day felt like the morning of a slumber party in the best way.
One of the most special elements of this day was that Alexandra did all of her own florals and they were absolutely stunning! I did my own florals for my wedding, but I didn't have a bridal party, so I am extremely impressed by brides who take on the task of doing their own florals when they have a full wedding party. With 8 bridesmaids and 8 groomsmen, and I don't even know how many tables that needed bud vases, Alexandra has all of my respect and awe!
The ceremony was held in the library room that was decked out with sting lights and bookshelves. There was a balcony type thing running along the perimeter of the room, providing me with a unique vantage point for capturing the ceremony, and I loved the way Mike and Alexandra were framed by the three domed windows at the front of the room. Their ceremony was emotional and sacred in all of the most beautiful ways!
I really wanted to showcase the grandeur of the Community House when taking M&A’s portraits, without drawing the attention away from the couple. We had a blast taking some time away from the party and taking photos on the sprawling front lawn and up in the rafters of the library room. When couples opt out of doing a first look, that means that all of the formal portraits with family and the full wedding party must be taken during the cocktail hour, but I wanted to get lovely portraits of the newlyweds while still making sure that Mike and Alexandra didn't miss out on their entire cocktail hour!
Mike & Alexandra’s reception was the ultimate party. The guests were there to DANCE. So much so that the DJ had to instruct some of the aunties to return to their seats when it was time for the dinner to be served because they couldn't resist breaking it down on the dance floor. The playlist was incredible, there was a lot of latin music and Alexandra's dad doing the robot--so basically all the makings of a good time.
Overall it was such an honor to get to document Mike & Alexandra's wedding through both digital and film photography, and it really felt like witnessing a family member marry the love of her life. I for sure shed some happy tears this day. :)
