Hi, my name is Nina!

The first thing you should know about me is that I am a big fan of genuine connection. I believe that the best photos are made when the relationship between the photographer and the client is akin to a friendship. My goal is for anyone I have the privilege of working with to feel like I’m their pal!

I got my first camera when I was 14, and have used cameras as tools to explore the beauty in people and places ever since. Film photography came into my life after I lost my little Canon Rebel T3 in a house fire. My mom let me start using her old Canon AE-1 Program that she used in her college days as a placeholder until I could replace my DSLR, but ever since then I have fallen in love with the way shooting on film allows me to stay present in the moment that I am capturing.

I live in northern New Jersey with my husband Will who is my best friend and designated second shooter/assistant! I have a degree in special education am super passionate about working with and advocating for individuals with disabilities.

I decided to name my business “film & frond photography” because I absolutely love the art of film photography, and because my favorite class of plant are ferns. A frond is the technical name for the leaf portion of a fern plant and the way a fern is comprised of mini versions of itself reminds me of the way human life exists because of layers and layers of love - the love of two people who came together to create a new human, the love of a parent for their child, the love of friends and community, the love of the Creator who breathed all things into being. All of life exists because of love, on a micro and macro level, and I like the way ferns display that concept in an organic way. Photography is my medium for celebrating and creating art out of love!
